Hotel Mumbai (2018): A Story of Bravery, Faith and Hope
This film is based on true events where in a series of coordinated attacks happened throughout the city of Mumbai, India. And terrorists went to Taj Hotel, the five-star Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, to established their last mission. This was taken place on Nov. 2008.
I do not usually watch action and historical films. It just happened that I passed by my coworker and asked a movie recommendation and he told me about this one. It is restday anyway and I can watch a movie with my dad so why not?
The hotel was a huge one. There are so many rooms, VIPs, staffs, and luxuries. It is a five-star hotel that you expect it would be. Then there are 10 muslims went to the city massively killing anyone. This tragedy has spread all over the news and most of the terrorists have reached and entered Taj Hotel as an innocent civilians. From this on, sounds of fireguns and grenades echoed the whole hotel. They targeted americans as their hostages to exchanged them for money but then the mastermind as they called their "brother bull" changed his mind and killed them otherwise. Hotel staffs tried their best to accompany their guests to safety towards the end even though their lives are at stake.
I like the heroism and the humanism. Risking your life for someone's soul? Easy to say, but what if you have a family waiting for you outside? Choosing to do your duty over youself's survival, if you are him what would you do? I was really carried away by the story itself. It is also a personal battle between what you want to do and what you need to do. At a situation like this, will you still save people? We have our own demons but these people took the right path. I salute all of them, all heroes in the past and in present. Also the braveness of the guests, their willingness to stay alive give them undying hope.
There is a scene where in one terrorist called his family and asking if they had already received the money but it didn't arrived. This part is heartbreaking. He lied to his family about his job, about the attacks because of a broken promise. They are promised to be given money as exchanged for their service. This person just want her family to have a life. He would sacrifice his self just to give them decent life. We can say that there can be other jobs that he can try to earn money but not in this way. But what if he had tried, still this is the only one that he can lean on right now? It is easy to judge but we are not on his feet. We do not know his real story and who are we to judge him anyway?
I believe there is a real reason why people do what they do that there is something that let them. We are only humans anyway, we just believe in what we believe in and no one has a permission to judge anyone. I believe that there is a purpose. We haven't figured it out yet, but one day we will. I still believe in humanity, in goodness, and in people. We just need to look on the silver lining.
If you have gone to this point, thank you. This is not a movie review, i just want to give insights. This movie has stikes me and i think i need to right something about it. This story touch my heart and soul and I want to share my feelings toward this.
