Bliss (2017): The Horror of Itself
Iza Calzado as Jane Ciego, a famous actress who is in limelight until she seen herself inside a haunted house with a nurse named Lilibeth, who portrayed by Adrienne Vergara. There are looping of events, sequence of events from day one to the last. The movie is intriguing and quite liberating in such a way that it gives you unlimited access on where Jane is coming from. Her innocence and being a victim from people who mentally abused her gives puzzle to the mind. The beginning of seeing Carlo as Joshua, the cruel laugh of Lilibeth, the open doors that haunting, and the light at the end, it thrills me, excites me, and gives me chills.
This indie film has been banned from cinemas because of its inappropriate contents and this is why I really like to watch it. It garnered international awards and nominees so definitely this is a must watched. I am a big fan of indie films and this is absolutely one that I must not missed. The movie reflects the life of people in the showbusiness and their careers. They dedicate their whole selves for their roles that most of the time, the enactment feels real, the portrayal becomes true. In this case, Jane was enclosed on the script and the camera is still rolling. She is still living in the dream. I like the way how Lilibeth, the registered nurse, narrates her story starting from how she started being molested until it became an addiction, how small the world is, and how she knows Jane.
There are clues inside about what Jane is going through, the horror, how Joshua played by Ian Veneracion became Carlo, and why Jane keeps on cutting the scene. But I never expected that there would be molestation. I never expected the ending and I never expected that the ending will keep me hanging. Until now, I am not sure on how to rate the movie. But one thing is for sure, this movie occupied my mind the moment I started watching it and let me think from the start to the end. This is not a typical horror movie. This is what I love about indie films. They give perception that other movies can't and each one never feels the same.
If you are like me who is also intrigued why the movie has been banned, then you must watch this to know.If you are like me who likes to watch indie films, you definitely watch it because no one, specially indie-movie lover, can get wrong with international-awardee indie films.
