Its Okay To Not Be Okay (2020): The Good, The Bad, and The Beauty

Like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, like everyone in their childhood, I am a princess living in a castle. I am residing in the deep forest and waiting for my prince charming in my balcony. My parents are the king and queen of the kingdom. There are witches, dragons, magic, and fairies. This is what being a child is all about. There are countless possibilities. Everything you imagine can come true. Until such time that everything is swallowed by reality, until everything became impossible.

Ko Mun-yeong, a lovely lady with imperfect life. Behind the wealth and fame, she is living the life she want to run away from. She is fierce, she knows where she stands, and nothing can stop her from getting what she wanted. Moon Sang-tae, a person with autism living with his younger brother Moon Gang-tae. They are both orphan. They hop in places to live. They are tormented by "the butterfly" who murdered their mother way back when they are still young.

I actually like the storyline. I love fairytale and I am still believing that even though this old, we are still living in them; the only difference is, it is realistic. Fairytale is timeless and ageless. It makes us realize that nothing is impossible whenever you believe. There are heroes, knights, princesses, and princes. Every battle can be won and magic will never gone out of spells.

Mun-yeong write children stories because she believes that one day her dream will come true and nightmares will go away. By fate, Mun-yeong and Gang-tae crossed path. Small world. How can two people who met at a very young age, no relation and no personal identification will meet again and in accidental way. Love really moves in mysterious ways. No matter how hard the situation may get, no matter what you have experienced in the past, still, love conquers all.

Mun-yeong is a victim of the past. She shadows the wrong doings of her mother and the pain inflicted by her father. This is what I love about her character. People think that being alone can keep them away from harm and they can be happy. They did not realize that people are made for each other. No one is an island. We can not live alone. If only we can embrace ourselves and let people in, we can see that there are people who are kind to us and believes that people can change. Just like Mun-yeong, we are all longing for that warmth in our hearts.

While Gang-tae, a lonely person who tries to show a smiling face even at the worst times. He has that empty smile. He tries to be strong, not for himself but for his big brother as well. We are all Gang-tae, we try to be strong, to show the world that we are tough. We try to carry everything on our own, showing no sign of weakness. Maybe, we just do it for the people we love and for the people who rely on us. It is actually rewarding. But at the end of the day, the only person who we betray are ourselves. It is not bad to be weak. It is not bad to ask for help. We just need to accept the fact that we are just humans who do mistakes. Admitting is a sign of bravery. It is hard to admit that we are wrong. It is hard to swallow pride. But this is how we can survive and this is how life can have meaning. Just like Gang-tae, we can cry. We can go insane at times. And, we can do mistakes. We just live and we are simply humans.

Sang-tae is trapped in the past, in the pain, and being a burden because of his condition. He does not want himself to be this way but the circumstance let him. He was born with a mental disorder, autism. I admit that people who may not be normal in some way are given a special gift. God created them is a special way. That is why they are called the God's gift. The good thing about Sang-tae, he is still trying to do his best not to make his brother upset or not to make him feel bad. As the only family member remained, he always remembers that he is the big brother and he must also protect Gang-tae. They maybe have issues, they sometimes fight. At the end, he fought his fears and overcomed it. They just need people who believe that they can.

This is about fighting what you believe in and reaching your dreams. People do mistakes and fail but we can stand up and try again. Nothing is already too late to people who are truly determined. Just like everyone in this story. You can be the Princess (Ko Mun-yeong), the Prince (Moon Gang-tae), and the Knight (Moom Sang-tae).

Over-all, it made me feel so many emotions, a rollercoaster ride indeed. I like the animations, the narrations, and the casting. I love fairytale and the tales that emphasized. I like it.
